Hand-building Clay Workshop

£35.00

Come and join me at the Manchester Ceramics Collective studio for a relaxing studio session learning a new skill.

Learning to use pinch pots and coiling techniques offers a foundational understanding of hand-building with clay. Pinch pots involve shaping a small ball of clay by gently pinching it between the thumb and fingers to create a hollow form, allowing control over thickness and shape. Coiling involves rolling out long, snake-like strands of clay and layering them to build up walls, which can then be smoothed to create a uniform surface or left textured for a decorative effect. Combining these methods enables the creation of a variety of functional and artistic items.

I’ve designed this workshop, so you can explore your own creativity, rather than me stipulating what you should make. Check out the link to the Pinterest board I’ve created as a starting point for your ideas. There will be an opportunity to decorate your piece from a curated palette of slips and underglazes. Fancy making yourself a new ramen bowl, coffee mug, cat/dog bowl or a present for your bff? This workshop teaches you the basics and your pinch pots will be the start of your own unique creation.

Each piece will be fired twice in our kilns and ready to collect from the studio approx.3-4 weeks after the workshop. If you’re not able to collect, I can arrange postage for a small charge.

Our studio is located at 65 Cornbrook Street, Manchester, M16 7QB

(If you’re local to Mcr and know the Kool Runnings jerk chicken truck - we’re on the same street.)
